"From the early days of his career it was obvious that Lichtański is an exceptional instrumentalist."

Adam Baruch (The Soundtrack Of My Life)

Hi!

My name is Wojciech Lichtański and I’m glad you’re here!

I am a Polish jazz alto and soprano saxophonist and composer. Sometimes I also play the flute. In November 2021, I defended my doctoral dissertation titled The Influence of Miniatures for Piano by Selected Composers of the Impressionist Era on Jazz Music Based on Own Compositions, for which I received the title of Doctor of Arts from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.

I am the leader of a band called Wojciech Lichtański Questions. You can find my music on two albums, Iga and Live, the latter recorded with Lichtański Sound Lab during my student years.
I have a great pleasure of collaborating with a number of bands, featuring the musicians who inspire me, e.g.:

Aga Derlak Septet feat. Atom String Quartet – in 2024, we won the Fryderyk Award for Jazz Album of the Year (awarded for Parallel).

Piotr Budniak Essential Group – we’ve been playing together since my student years. In 2024, we celebrated our 10th anniversary, performing concerts in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia. So far, we've released five albums and have already recorded material for the sixth.

Since 2024 I’ve also been a member of the trio formed by an American bassist, Mike Parker.

I’ve collaborated with bands like Jakub Paulski Sextet, Jerzy Małek Gravity Group, Bartosz Pernal Sextet, Vehemence Quartet, Concept Art Orchestra (Prague, the Czech Republic), and the Małopolska Big Band.

There are over 20 albums in my discography now, including the two with my original music.
I’ve had the opportunity to perform with the remarkable musicians: Peter Evans, Rosario Giuliani, Baptiste Herbin, Jorge Vistel, Leszek Możdżer, Piotr Wojtasik, Janusz Muniak, and many others.

I’ve also performed at many festivals in Poland and abroad, including Delhi International Jazz Festival (New Delhi, India), Leverkusen Jazz Tage (Germany), Brasov Jazz & Blues Festival (Romania), Valley of the Arts Festival (Kapolcs, Hungary), Jazz Forum Festival (Stara Zagora, Bulgaria), and Polish Jazz Festival Lengyel Intézet Budapest (Hungary).

During my student years, I won several prestigious jazz contests and received awards granted by some exceptional jazz musicians:
Jazz nad Odrą (chairman of the jury: Lee Konitz)
Lotos Jazz Festival Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa (jury member: Aaron Parks)

As a teenager, I was successful in numerous competitions where I performed classical music on the saxophone.  My work has consistently been recognized with scholarships awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

I encourage you to listen to my music and follow me on social media.

See you at the concerts!
